What is the Women’s Global Leadership Forum?

The forum is part of the University of Virginia’s Bicentennial celebration, marking progress of the past 200 years while envisioning the University’s aspirations for the next century. The Forum, spearheaded by UVA Morven Programs, will bring together more than 200 women from the University and around the world to address the “Role of Women in 21st Century Democracy” and to explore the challenges and contributions of women in today's complex society. Visionary leaders from over 25 countries will participate in this event in partnership with the Presidential Precinct.

When is the Women’s Global Leadership Forum?

The Women’s Global Leadership Forum will be held on Monday, November 13 and Tuesday, November 14, 2017 on the grounds of the University.  The program agenda is available on the homepage. 

How do I register for the forum?

Registration for panel sessions and the schedule including speakers are now on the website.

Is there a cost to register?

Registration is free, but space is limited.

When should I arrive to the forum sessions?

Please plan to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to each session in Newcomb Hall in order to go through security.

Is the Women’s Global Leadership Forum open to all students and members of the community?

Forum sessions are open to all students, faculty, staff and the community who register on a space available basis.

How should I dress for the forum sessions?

Dress is business casual.

Will the sessions be recorded and posted online after the event?

The sessions will be recorded and available for viewing on the Women’s Global Leadership Forum website after the event.

What accommodations will be made for people with disabilities?

The Forum is planned as an inclusive and accessible experience for all persons with disabilities. To that end, we encourage you to let us know if there is an accommodation need when you register for the event. Limited accessible seating will be available at all of the session venues. The larger events will feature real-time captioning and ASL-English interpreters. Will there be security for the forum sessions on the November 13 and the 14.

All attendees must pass through a security checkpoint before entering the Newcomb Hall Ballroom on November 13, and the Newcomb Hall Theatre on November 14.  Guests who do not follow UVA’s clear-bag policy will be subject to a bag search by UVA security personnel. More information will be provided regarding security to those who register.

How can I attend the closing address of the Women’s Global Leadership Forum?

All University of Virginia students, faculty and staff (this includes Academic, Health System and University-Related Foundations’ employees) are eligible to enter a lottery to attend the closing address of the Women’s Global Leadership Forum at the Old Cabell Hall Auditorium on Tuesday November 14 at 2:30PM.  Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will headline “Women and 21st Century Democracy: The Path Forward."  When the lottery opens on October 26 at 9AM, details and registration information will be sent to the UVA community and posted on the WGLF website. The lottery will close on October 30 at 5PM.

If I do not get a ticket through the lottery, will there be an opportunity to see the closing address?

The closing address on November 14 at 2:30PM will be available for remote viewing at the Newcomb Hall Theatre and the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center.  Tickets are not required.  Doors at the remote viewing sites open up at 1:00 p.m.  Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Both sites are wheelchair accessible.

If I register for the forum sessions, do I automatically get a ticket to the closing address?

No, registration for the forum sessions and closing address is separate.

Will there be security for the closing address of the forum?

All attendees must pass through a security checkpoint before entering Old Cabell Hall for the closing session.  As with the Bicentennial Launch Celebration, the University will follow a clear-bag policy to allow security personnel to visually inspect the contents, which helps to expedite entry into the building. Attendees will be able to enter Old Cabell Hall with the following style and size bag:

  • A plastic purse/bag that is clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and does not exceed 12 x 6 x 12 inches
  • A one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bags or similar)
  • One small clutch bag, approx. the size of a hand

 Opaque bags larger than 12-by-6-by-12 inches will not be allowed. 

What time should I arrive to the closing address at Old Cabell Hall?

Doors open at 1:00PM. General admission ticket holders must be seated by 1:45PM. Guests should arrive early to clear security.
