The Honorable Shelley Moore Capito
Shelley Moore Capito was elected to the United States Senate in 2014, when she became the first female U.S. Senator in West Virginia’s history, receiving the largest margin of victory for a Republican in state history. She served West Virginia’s Second Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives for 14 years, and was a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates for four years prior. Senator Capito is a member of four Senate Committees: Appropriations, Environment and Public Works (EPW), Rules and Administration, and Commerce, Science and Technology. She Chairs two Senate Subcommittees: the Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee of the Appropriations Committee, and EPW’s Clean Air and Nuclear Safety Subcommittee. Senator Capito holds a B.S. from Duke University and a M.Ed. from the University of Virginia. She is the 2009 Recipient of the UVA Women’s Center Distinguished Alumni Award.
